Joint Master's Degrees with Graduate School of Business
The Graduate School of Business and the School of Engineering and Applied Science offer a joint program leading to the M.B.A. degree from the Graduate School of Business and the M.S. degree in Earth resources engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The purpose of this program is to train students who wish to pursue Earth resource management careers.
Students are expected to register full time for three terms in the Graduate School of Business and for two terms in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. It is possible, however, to study in the School of Engineering and Applied Science part time. Interested persons should contact Professor Yegulalp at 212-854-2984 or by email at .
How to Apply
Candidates must apply for admission to SEAS for M.S.–E.R.E. and Columbia School of Business for M.B.A. separately. Upon gaining admission to both programs they become joint-degree candidates. If only one admission application is successful, the students may pursue the graduate degree on that program. If the second admission is granted while enrolled in one of the programs, it is possible to pursue the joint-degree program. The residency and course requirements remain the same.

Requirements
Admission requirements are different for each program. However, all applicants must take the G.R.E. and G.M.A.T. regardless of their background or prior academic achievements. Foreign students must also take the T.O.E.F.L. test. T.O.E.F.L. is required of all candidates who received their bachelor’s degree in a country in which English is not the official and spoken language. TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date. Those students pursuing the M.S.-E.R.E. degree who have deficiencies in their academic background will be required to take extra courses in addition to the minimum requirements for the degree. In this case, residency at the SEAS may be longer than two semesters. This will be decided by the students’ academic advisor after the admission process is completed. Students may receive financial aid for the M.S.-E.R.E. portion of their residency from the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, contingent on their academic qualifications and availability of funds for that purpose.
